At the shallow level...it's a #'s game
If all you’re going for in evangelism is #’s (as in people getting saved), basically it comes down to how many people you approach.
It’s sort of like sales. There is a Law of Average that for every 100 people you approach, X% are going to say no, Y% are going to say yes, and Z% can be persuaded depending on your skill.
This is of course humanly speaking. If God is involved…then everything I just said means nothing.
Reading up on the major moves of God that have happened throughout history like all the ones mentioned here http://bit.ly/2q6KOVa
You’ll notice that there’s not much we can do other than be hungry for God.
When that happens and God shows up, the numbers take care of themselves!
But on a personal revival basis (you being the revival), there are people that will come to Jesus simply because you told them that Jesus loves them; easy as that.
To be fair with the Law of Averages, there will be those that say yes and those that say no, and others that can be persuaded.
This is where some skill to approach someone tactfully comes into play. And at the very least, there’s one thing I want you to remember throughout this entire blog if you remember nothing else – all of this must be motivated by and done with love.
And of course, you should have a grounded understanding of who you are in Christ.
What this video for a quick and powerful explanation.
According to the Law of Averages, if you talk with 60-120 people a month, especially if you follow the methods we teach here at Faith Pro Hero, you should see at least 20 people a month wanting to give their lives to Jesus.
I say this basically for you to understand that you don’t need to receive a “special word or Holy Ghost Hunch” to go and talk with someone about the love of God.
You don’t need to be “sent” by a voice or feeling in other words. Many people are waiting for you to simply talk to them.
With these numbers, just by chance, you will likely find 20 of these people in any given month.
But why settle for statistics? What if there’s more? Now we begin the good stuff.
People skills are only going to get you so far. In minor conversations, you can be “in control” if you will.
But there comes a time where it is completely obvious that God is handling the situation.
An example of this would be the day of Pentecost with Peter. I doubt three thousand Jews believed Jesus is the Messiah simply because Peter made a few good points from the scriptures.
Apologetics (defending your faith) works, but I haven’t seen it work that good. Getting “God Results” in evangelism is going to be the hardest easy-thing you’ve ever done.
The key is to get busy resting.
By “resting” I don’t mean sitting at home waiting for God to call you on the phone. I mean sticking with what you know about God even in the face of looking stupid; even if you don’t see upfront results.
I remember when my dog (Bella) was only a few months old and she was attacked by a German shepherd dog while we were walking on the street. The larger dog took mine and swung it around in the air like she was a limp rag. I tell the full story here (but warning the video contains graphic content not suitable for some audiences…especially dog lovers).
She was done. Her body developed an infection that eventually lead to her death. She was dead for two hours, says my wife.
But against all odds and against what everyone else was telling us, we trusted in God to do something and He did. Really, go watch the video right now.
You’ll find it interesting to understand that it’s difficult to take your hands off the situation and let God take over.
And it becomes especially painful when God doesn’t “pull through” as quickly as we would like or in the way that we think He should do things.
But if you’re willing to let God do what He wants with the situation, knowing that He is a good Dad with good intentions working towards our greatest good, then sit and rest in that rather than trying to find rest in the potential results you’ve preconditioned in your mind.
1. List 3 things you are praying about
2. List what needs to happen in order for these things to be accomplished
3. Commit to God EVERYTHING that is out of your control and simply sit back and wait/watch
We as believers need to do all that is possible that is within our abilities. That's just being a faithful steward.
But there are many things we have no control over. At this point, we need to wrestle in our minds to stay focused on the fact, "God's got a plan."
So what are your thoughts? What have you seen that has worked before or not so much? Post below in the comments and let us know.
